The post-VanCon 2012 escapades of a bunch of determined fangirls
On the Tuesday after Vancon (29 August) we found the location for the day – assisted by our discovery of this sign:
which Jim Michaels (via twitter) later informed us, stands for Bike Shorts Kevin! We spent quite some time while driving around, suggesting various possibilities for its significance, but that wasn’t even close!
We parked behind the circus, and took a few photos along the way:
There was already a small group of other fans standing opposite the location site, when we arrived. Everything was hidden behind a long, curved driveway, and an enormous hedge.
When 8.05 aired we discovered this was the house on Prentiss Island where Benny’s maker lived.
We watched a lot of coming and going, and even saw Jensen leave, and later return in the car with Clif. He waved both times. (Sorry, I didn’t get a pic of that, I was too busy being an excited little fangirl).
Guy Bee came over briefly to say hi when they broke for lunch.
Then Ty Olsson also came over, looking very handsome in “Benny’s” coat. He graciously posed for pics with some of us.
Some of the crew came over to say hi:
A little later a car pulled up & Guy got out with S.E. Hinton, who was visiting the set that week.
They chatted while I muttered to my friends that I really wanted to ask for a photo with them. They encouraged me, saying that I’d regret it if I didn’t. So I bravely spoke up and asked and got these lovely shots – thanks to those who took them for me!
Guy told us that Jared wasn’t there, he was in Austin. He also told that they were shooting in the studio on Wednesday, so no point looking for them, but they would be “out and about” on Thursday. We took this as an open invitation to try to find them, which turned out to be the best thing and a definite highlight of my trip.
A bit later, Russ Hamilton arrived, waving a finger and telling us to behave ourselves as he walked past. Hmmmph! Pots/kettles etc.
By this time quite a number of other fans had arrived, so we decided to leave.
We were bowled over by how friendly everyone was. None of them were obliged to interact with us at all, and yet they went out of their way to make us welcome. Clif was obviously checking us out earlier in the day, but he must’ve decided we were just your average group of post-VanCon fans, and nothing to be concerned about. This was a great lead-in to our adventure at Barnet Marine Park on the Thursday after VanCon. See my earlier post: On Location Set of 8.05 Blood Brother with Guy Norman Bee
